Elsie Iverson

Elsie Iverson, age 91, of Alexandria, formerly of Morris and Elbow Lake, died Thursday, February 25, 2016. A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Grand Arbor in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at Grand Arbor. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. OBITUARY Elsie Annie Nanninga was born June 12, 1924 in Sibley, MN, the daughter of Harm and Annie (Vanderveen) Nanninga. She had two siblings, Minnie and John, when her mother died. In 1927, Elsie and John were adopted by Ben and Della DeLong. Elsie grew up in the Elbow Lake, MN and Morris, MN area where she attended school. Harm Nanninga visited her and she was reunited with her sister, Minnie. On March 1, 1950 Elsie was united in marriage to Halvor Breum. They made their home on a farm bear Barrett, MN. The couple was blessed with two children, Beverly and Wayne. As a farm wife she tended the chickens and the ducks. Elsie gardened and canned her produce. She was a good cook and liked to bake. Elsie is remembered for her breads, cakes and cookies. When she served meals it was old fashioned country cooking and plenty of it. Elsie was also able to sew dresses and aprons for herself and Beverly; she even made the doll clothes. Elsie also worked outside her home. She worked at the Dew Drop Inn in Hoffman. MN, the Barrett Inn and the Elbow Lake school cafeteria. Elsie enjoyed spending time doing puzzles and making plastic canvas napkin holders. She loved to feed and watch the hummingbirds. She enjoyed flowers, growing them indoors and outdoors. Halvor died in 1985. Elsie moved from the farm into Barrett and later to Elbow Lake. In June 1999, Elsie was united in marriage to Al Iverson. They made their home in Elbow Lake, and later, in Morris. Most recently they made their home in Alexandria, MN. On Thursday, February 25, 2016 Elsie died at the age of ninety-one years. She is preceded in death by husband, Halvor Breum; all of her parents; sister, Minne Doeksen; and brothers, Ben and Edward DeLong. Elsie is survived by her husband, Al Iverson of Alexandria; daughter, Beverly Wegner and husband, Steven, of Red Wing, MN; son, Wayne Breum and wife, Brenda, of Monticello, MN, five grandchildren, Sara, James, Peter, Allen and Alicia; and fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, John DeLong of Morris and Richard DeLong of Benson, MN; sisters, Greta Mogler of Morris and Darlene Loose of Morris; and sisters-in-law, Vonna DeLong of Alexandria and Norma DeLong of Herman, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 PM, Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Grand Arbor in Alexandria. Reverend Michael Peterson will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM Sunday at Grand Arbor. Interment at a later date will be in Barrett. Memorials are preferred to the Knute Nelson Hospice. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
